DANCE TIMING

A mix of "New York On 2" timing and style and other timings as well.

DESCRIPTION Long time salsa promoter and fellow On 2 mambo dancer Alejandro Bauza, along with instructor and performer Talia Castro-Pozo, present this Monday night salsa & other music event held in the very attractive Taj Lounge in downtown Manhattan.  The club has a full bar and late night kitchen serving gourmet specialties - See Menu .  With a wooden dance floor and professional DJ sound system, a mixed group of dancers come here regularly for dancing and socializing.  Many weeks feature a dance performance and often there is a live band as well.  The very experienced group of rotating DJs play a classic selection of salsa music typical of New York salsa clubs and events, along with other Latin & occasionally American music.

HOW TO GET THERE

This weekly event is held at Taj, 48 West 21st Street (between 5th & 6th Avenues), downtown Manhattan, NYC.  Click Here For Map

The closest subways would be the F, M, N and R trains to the 23rd Street Station.  A few blocks away would be the # 1 and # 6 trains to the 23rd Street Station.  NYC buses travel nearby along Broadway, 5th and 6th Avenues, as well as crosstown on 23rd Street.

It should be possible to find street parking within a few minutes of driving around looking.  Warning:  Some of the streets near the club have night time parking regulations, for example no parking after 11:00 PM or 12:00 midnight.  So check the parking signs VERY CAREFULLY.

For more information on public transportation, click on NYC Subway-Bus-Train Maps , or NY-NJ PATH Train Maps or Long Island Railroad Maps or MetroNorth Railroad Maps or HopStop.

OTHER INFORMATION Age 21 with ID required to enter the club.

Please Note:  Commercial clubs are established to please their customers & make a profit.  If they get enough complaints or suggestions, they will often make changes.  As mambo dancers, you should make every effort to let the management & DJ know what type of music you want to hear, what volume & lighting conditions you want, how the dance floor should be, etc.  If enough salsa lovers give their opinions to management & DJs, they will hopefully listen.

Also, since commercial clubs have high expenses and need to make a profit in order to stay open and continue playing lots of salsa, they will therefore cater to the customers who spend the most money.  Mambo dancers can help get what they want by spending more money at the bar, even if it's sodas, fruit juices, virgin cocktails, water, sports drinks.  You may think you're smart by not buying anything at a club, or sneaking in a bottle of water or liquor, but actually you are pushing them to play more of other kinds of music, because customers who prefer that music spend more money at the bar.  If you want commercial clubs to feature more salsa nights, you have to pay for it by purchasing beverages at the bar.  This is just simple economics.  www.SalsaNewYork.com is not affiliated with any events or clubs;  we are just being realistic.
