DANCE TIMING

DESCRIPTION La Placita De La Marqueta - An annual outdoor free event that is the classic NYC neighborhood salsa dancing gathering, attracting dancers of all ages and all timings & styles.  The music is very good traditional mid-tempo salsa and cha cha with attendees singing, dancing and playing along on the usual percussion instruments.  Dancing is on cement on 3 levels of dance "floors".  Usually food & beverages are sold at the event, and they are also available at the many stores right nearby on East 116th Street.  Since the event is underneath the overhead Metro North train tracks, it is protected from rain, so the event is held rain or shine.

For the pure On 2 dancers who learned in a studio, this event is a valuable opportunity to be in the original atmosphere of our NY style mambo, among people dancing with all the flavor & rhythm & musicality that it began with.

OTHER INFORMATION

Please Note - Disclaimer:  New York City area summer outdoor salsa events in general are subject to program changes and occasional cancellations for various reasons (band, DJ, weather, administrative mix-ups, etc.), so don't be too surprised if this happens.  And the music may not always be as "pure salsa" as we would like.  Also, the dancing conditions may be less than ideal, for example concrete, grass, dirt, sand, etc., so bring footwear that prepares you for any surface.  I will state the dancing surface if I know what it is.  My information comes from the most reliable sources I can find.  In most cases, the information turns out to be accurate, but occasionally it is not.  "It's the nature of the beast."
