State Senator Marty Markowitz, features 7 different Thursday nights with bands playing all
kinds of music, one of which is salsa. Click on All Concerts to see their other
non-salsa evenings. The one salsa evening on August 14th features a band
yet to be announced and maybe other performers. Held at Asser Levy Seaside
Park, where West 5th Street, Surf Avenue, Ocean Parkway and Seabreeze Avenue all
come together in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, across the street from the New
York Aquarium, just opposite the Boardwalk along the beach. The park
itself is all grass and dirt, and a dance floor is set up to the side of
the stage. People also dance on the Boardwalk where the music can
still be heard, but the artists cannot really be seen up-close.
People bring their beach chairs (or a limited number can be rented
for $5) and coolers and have their dinner right before the concerts start.
The younger crowd just shows up and perches on the fence. The event
usually lasts until around midnight.

OTHER INFORMATION |
Bring your own chair. Only a limited
number will be available for rental @ $5. NO cameras,
audio or video recording equipment, alcohol, pets, bottles and no smoking. Please Note - Disclaimer:
New York City area summer outdoor salsa events in general are subject to
program changes and occasional cancellations for various reasons (band,
DJ, weather, administrative mix-ups, etc.), so don't be too surprised if
this happens. And the music may not always be as "pure salsa" as we
would like. Also, the dancing conditions may be less than ideal, for
example concrete, grass, dirt, sand, etc., so bring footwear that prepares
you for any surface. I will state the dancing surface if I know what
it is. My information comes from the most reliable sources I can
find. In most cases, the information turns out to be accurate, but
occasionally it is not. It is the nature of the beast.
