DANCE TIMING

Almost entirely "New York On 2" timing and style.

DESCRIPTION Our fellow long-time local salseras Jerryanne and Tina are bringing us this dedicated On 2 Tuesday salsa night held at the well-known East Village lounge Lava Gina.  The place is a rather chic funky landmark lounge specializing in many kinds of music during the week;  Tuesday nights are for the mambo dancers.  There will be lots of classic salsa music played by the DJs and there is a very easy-going socializing scene around the bar.  Jerryanne and Tina are dedicated On 2 dancers who go to many of our events, are familiar to many of us, and know what kind of a dancing event we are looking for.

HOW TO GET THERE This weekly club salsa party is being held at Lava Gina World Music Lounge, 116 Avenue C (between 7th and 8th Streets), in Manhattan's East Village / Lower East Side.  Click Here For Map.  By public transportation:  Take any train to 14th Street and then take the #14D bus which lets you off at Avenue C and 11th Street.  Get off the bus when it makes the left turn off of Avenue C onto 11th Street heading east.  Then walk down Avenue C a few blocks.  Lava Gina is on the left side in the middle of the block as you are walking south on Avenue C.

Also from anywhere on 14th Street, you can take the #14A bus which lets you off on Avenue A, 2 blocks away.

If you don't mind a bit of a walk, you can take the L train to the 1st Avenue Station and either walk to the club or take the 14th Street crosstown bus noted above.  Or you can take the F train to the 2nd Avenue Station.  One end of the train lets you off at 1st Avenue / Allen Street and Houston Street.  Walk from there to the club on Avenue C.

If you go by car, there is street parking if you look around a bit.

OTHER INFORMATION

Please Note:  Commercial clubs are established to please their customers & make a profit.  If they get enough complaints or suggestions, they will often make changes.  As mambo dancers, you should make every effort to let the management & DJ know what type of music you want to hear, what volume & lighting conditions you want, how the dance floor should be, etc.  If enough salsa lovers give their opinions to management & DJs, they will listen.

Also, since commercial clubs have high expenses and need to make a profit in order to stay open and continue playing lots of salsa, they will therefore cater to the customers who spend the most money.  Mambo dancers can help get what they want by spending more money at the bar, even if it's sodas, fruit juices, virgin cocktails, water, sports drinks.  You may think you're smart by not buying anything at a club, or sneaking in a bottle of water or liquor, but actually you are pushing them to play more merengue, bachata, Reggaeton & English music, because customers who prefer this music spend more money at the bar.  If you want commercial clubs to feature more salsa nights, you have to pay for it by purchasing beverages at the bar.  This is just simple economics.  www.SalsaNewYork.com is not affiliated with any events or clubs;  we are just being realistic.
