HEAR LATIN MUSIC ON FM RADIO,  TV & INTERNET -  LATIN MAGAZINES

FM  RADIO

Every once in a while when I'm out dancing, someone hands me a little card titled:  WILLIE MEDINA SALSA HOTLINE, which lists FM radio and cable TV latin music programs in the New York City area.  It's also available at Casa Latina Music Shop in El Barrio and also The Salsa Museum.  I don't know Willie Medina, and there's no number for him on the little paper, but I'm told he's a great guy who loves latin music and prints this info up for the rest of us.   Click on Willie Medina to see another web site referring to him.   I hope he permits me to reprint his listings here in the interest of spreading the the word about the music.   Many, but not all, of the listings below come from Willie Medina's little list.  Please note that I have not checked these listings myself.  If you find errors, or know of other salsa and Latin programs on FM,  please email me at Salsa@nyc.rr.com  with the information.

FM 93.1  -  "Amor 93.1 FM" - Radio Romantico  -  www.amorfm.com   -  Mostly romantic latin music, almost no salsa.

FM 97.9  -  La Mega www.lamega.com  -  212-246-9413  and 212- 541-9200.  At most times, plays 1 salsa, 1 merengue, 1 house,  5 advertisements, several minutes of chatter, then repeats the pattern.   Very little salsa per hour of programming.

FM 105.9  -  "LatinoMix 105.9" -     212-310-6000.  Used to play a lot of salsa but has now switched to what they call "latin mix", which unfortunately doesn't include much classic salsa.

SALSA ON THE INTERNET  -  HOW TO FIND SALSA MUSIC ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD

24 Hour Salsa Music On The Internet - Click your way to this salsa music site on the web, crank up your computer's speakers, and enjoy continuous music, including info on the song, artist and name of CD while it is playing.  High speed internet connections will probably sound best.  Home computers using a standard dial-up modem and telephone line may not be able to provide enough capacity for the songs to sound clear. You can try going off-line and then back on in the hopes that a different connection will improve the sound.   Also, you may have to wait 30 - 60 seconds after a song begins playing before the name appearing for that song updates.

There are a variety of online salsa stations or programs.  But over the years, they keep changing.  Old ones leave, new ones arrive, and we cannot keep up.  So we no longer link to most specific salsa music "stations" on the internet.  I would suggest that you go to www.Google.com and do a search for "online salsa radio" or something similar and try some different stations to find the one you like.  You can also try clicking on the Salsa Section of Station Live365.com .

Here are a few online stations that are currently live (10/07):

Check out one of our own NYC salseros, Juan Montoya, who has an online music program specializing in "New York salsa" at  http://www.live365.com/stations/on2guru .

Also check out La Brisa Tropical.  Choose your computer's player at http://www.brisatropical.com/live.html .

Willie Colon, originally from the Bronx, NYC, and now in Albany, NY, has a regular online program playing classic salsa several days a week which has been running for many years.  Click on Willie Colon's Online Salsa Program to listen.

I have discovered two web sites that allow you to hear radio stations from all over the world, via the internet. You simply go to these web sites, and then choose a station anywhere. You will then be able to hear that radio station through the speakers on your computer. You must have, or will have to download, "real player software" which makes your computer able to play the sound. The two web sites are:

                   www.radio-directory.com                                                www.broadcast.com
