Smokin'
Hot was recently invited to attend LATIN
MADNESS by
one of our S.H.E. supporters in the show. I finally
got to go last weekend and was I ever glad I did. Not
only was I pleasantly surprised by the show that I
got, I was equally surprised by what I took away.
Being billed as a "dancical", LATIN
MADNESS
is definitely that and so much more. With a balanced
mix of dancing, comedy and, to my surprise, history, I
was transported through the many years and eras of
Latin dance. Everything from African dance to rhumba,
salsa, disco and beyond was highlighted in incredible
dance numbers. The pulsing drive of the live pit
orchestra only further enhanced our listening and
viewing pleasure.
I
could go on and on with details like the timbale
face-off reminiscent of the times Tito Puente took the
stage or the hilarious comedy sets that set the stage
for the show, but I'd rather not ruin this gem for
you. This is definitely something for not only Latinos
to see, but for anyone who has an appreciation for
music and the power of music to make you dance. LATIN
MADNESS
is definitely something new, fresh and vividly
entertaining. One can only hope that Broadway pays
attention and gives this show the exposure it truly
needs.
Don't
take it from us. As their press release touts: "The
twenty five member LATIN MADNESS dance troupe
is comprised of an international array of dancers that
continue to be on the cutting edge in the world of
Latin Dance. These performers are as versatile as they
are good. Whether dancing Mambo, Cha-Cha, Merengue or
Hip-Hop they take the hot pulsating Latin beats and
combine them with their fast stepping, gyrating bodies
for a dance extravaganza the likes of which will have
you asking a for a Mojito to cool off. These
performers have toured internationally in countries
such as England, Italy, France, Japan, Israel, Turkey,
Holland, Toronto, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, Colombia,
Belgium and Peru. In the United States they have
toured cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami,
Houston, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and the list goes
on."
Come
and see for yourself why this show will have you
dancing all night! Shows will run through November 2nd
at the Hostos Center for the Arts & Cluture (450
Grand Concourse, Bronx). Tickets are on sale now for
$40-45. AND JUST ADDED: $20 balcony seating!
