LATIN
MADNESS STORYLINE
THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED OFF-BROADWAY MUSICAL
RETURNS FOR A SECOND SEASON.
This
Double-Dose of Comedy and Dance is a Unique Journey Through The History of
Latin Dance in America.
(October
2002-- New York, New York) Latin
Madness, a production of Latin
Madness, LLC and Side Street Kids, Inc., is a dynamic musical comedy that
returns for a third season to El
Teatro Heckscher at El Museo del
Barrio from November 7th to November 17th.
Latin Madness, conceived and co-produced by Nelson
Flores and Carlos Mendoza,
fuses the producers' love of humor with their experience as dancers,
choreographers and directors of their own dance companies. Written
by comedian Herb Quiñones, Latin Madness will take audiences through a
journey of the history of Latin dance and music beginning in the Caribbean,
highlighting the Palladium, the Boogaloo, the Disco Hustle, the rebirth of
Mambo and finally transporting audiences to the new millennium through this
spectacular theatrical production.
The Story
The story is about two Latino
guys from the Bronx who, after exiting a Broadway show, comment on how the
Latino story has never been represented on stage. So, they decide to bring
their show to Broadway. Latin Madness stars Latin radio personality Herb Quiñones,
stand-up comedian/actor Rich Ramirez and 35 dancers who perform everything
from Mambo, Cha-Cha to Merengue and Hip-Hop in over a dozen pieces.
As Artistic Director of Latin Madness, María Tirado combines hot Latin beats
and fast stepping dance moves for an extraordinary dance experience. Also,
audiences can expect special guest performances by internationally recognized
Salsa song man Ray Sepúlveda and world-renowned percussionists Bobby Allende
and Marc Quiñones in a special recreation of the legendary battle of the
timbales between Tito Puente and Tito Rodriguez.
The Cast
Nelson Flores is currently
director of the Descarga Latina Dance
Co., and Carlos Mendoza is the Executive Director of the Side Street Kids,
Inc., a non-profit organization committed to providing inner city children
with positive afterschool activities.
Herb Quiñones stand-up has appeared on NBC, HBO, BET, KTLA and WPIX. Herb can
be heard every morning as "The Boricua Kid" on the Coco y Celines de
Seis a Diez morning show on LatinoMix 105.9FM.
Rich Ramirez's comedic performances have been on A&E, BET, and VH1.
Also, Rich showcased his acting skills on NBC's "Law and Order" and
daytime TV's "Another World" and "One Life to Live." Rich
debuted on the silver screen in "Punchline" with Tom Hanks and Sally
Field.
Latin Madness
starts on Thursday, November 7 and runs through Sunday, November 10 and again
from Thursday, November 14 through Sunday, November 17. All performances will
be held at the historic Teatro Heckscher at El Museo del Barrio. The Teatro
Heckscher is located at 1230 Fifth Avenue at 104th Street. Tickets are US $37
