Results from the First Ever
NY/NJ 1st Annual
People's Choice Salsa Dance Awards

This past April 6th, 2002 the 1st Annual People's Choice Salsa dance Awards were held at the Bronx's Starlite Caterers. Though I was not in town to attend the event, I was told by my Co-Web partner Steve Shaw that the event was put together pretty well.

Steve and I both know that this was the first attempt ever to create such an award ceremony for the NY/NJ mambo dance community.  Many people have pointed out that there were some flaws in this year's process.  But I like to try and look at the brighter side of this issue.  I think that the fact that the event took place at all was an achievement in itself. Its about time that dancers get the artistic recognition they deserve for all the hard work they put into their craft.  If they were errors in this year's process, then let the promoters chalk it up as a learning experience and allow them the opportunity to make corrections for next year's awards.  Remember that that the first couple of "Salsa Congresses" weren't mistake free.  It took a little time to create the formula that everyone now uses.

The last two years have seen some major visionary growth for the NY tri-state mambo community.  First there was Latin Madness, now the inclusion of a mambo dancer awards events.
